Cleopatra's Moon by Vicky Alvear Shecter
To Be Released: August 1st, 2011
(from Goodreads):
"The Luxe" meets the ancient world in the extraordinary story of Cleopatra's daughter.
Selene has grown up in a palace on the Nile with her parents, Cleopatra & Mark Antony—the most brilliant, powerful rulers on earth. But the jealous Roman Emperor Octavianus wants Egypt for himself, & when war finally comes, Selene faces the loss of all she's ever loved. Forced to build a new life in Octavianus's household in Rome, she finds herself torn between two young men and two possible destinies—until she reaches out to claim her own.
This stunning novel brings to life the personalities & passions of one of the greatest dramas in history, & offers a wonderful new heroine in Selene.
I love the sound of this one-- like another Cleopatra's Daughter, a historical fiction novel also featuring Selene which I was very obsessed with a while back. Can't wait!!
Just a short FYI-- this is officially my 100th post!! I've been blogging for a little over 3 months, which seems nothing short of bizarre to me.

ReplyDeleteSounds Great! Which do you think is better? Cleopatras Moon or Cleopatras Daughter? ...if I were going to read only one which one would you suggest to me if I like good historical detail, don't have to have a lot of action but do like good, solid story lines and great character development? Love Egyptian Historical Fiction - glad you reveiwed this.

ReplyDeleteHere's what I'm waiting on.
@Bridleless-- Hi! :) Cleopatra's Moon has yet to be released (it comes out in August), but I would definitely recommend Cleopatra's Daguhter, by Michelle Moran. It's one of my favorite Egyptian novels.
ReplyDelete@chelleyreads-- I haven't heard of the author either-- she might be a debut, I'm not sure. Hope you enjoy it if you do read it! :)
@jlshall-- You're right, lots of books about Cleopatra Selene are popping up these last few years. Another one is Lily of the Nile, a new novel which I'm just about to order.
I read and loved Cleopatra's Daughter so I am intrigued by this. I like the different takes on Selene and find her to be a fascinating character. Thanks for sharing this book - it's definitely going on my list.
ReplyDeleteOoh! This sounds good! I have to check it out. Historical fiction <3

ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of this book before. Love the cover. Adding to my wishlist :)
I really want to read this too, I love anything and everything about Cleopatra.
ReplyDeleteMy WOW
@Crystal-- I loved Cleopatra's Daughter, too! I just love Michelle Moran's writing and the feel of Selene's world. :)
ReplyDelete@Nic-- Thanks! I like the cover, too-- I'm a sucker for black covers lately. A friend hypothesized to me once that all these black covers have gotten popular because of Twilight. *shrugs*
@BLHmistress-- Cleopatra is just so awesome! I remember doing a project on her in the sixth grade, and afterwards was hooked on anything Ancient Egypt. :)
