So, it was epic, no? Painfully epic, heart-breakingly epic, wonderfully epic. The general epic-ness of the entire film, paired with the huge anticipation for the movie's release and the mad-house feel of the event itself-- SO many people attended, and so many of them had donned Hogwarts uniforms and wizarding hats-- has me rather at a loss for words. A certain cliche tells us a picture is worth much more than a couple paragraphs of my babbling, so...
These pictures are very pixel-y, so they're worth maybe 6 or 7 hundred words each. That's me with the goofy hat, and that's my sister Pinky (she of the infamous guest reviews). This is just before the premiere-- we didn't actually get to take any at the theaters because, well, it was dark.
These are my nails in Hogwarts colors after Pinky finished with them... you can't tell in this horrible picture, but the letters spell out HOGWARTS. Pinky tried to do Hallows symbols on my thumbs, but they came out more like very smudged triangles. ;) Ah, well, she gets ten points to her house for effort.
As for the movie itself, I was impressed by how closely the first half stuck to the original material-- some of it was almost word-for-word dialogue from the seventh book. Towards the final fight scenes and the duel between Harry and Voldemort, the movie veered away from the book a good bit (what was with HP and Voldy flinging themselves out the castle window to the pointy spires below??) But overall, this was definitely the most action-paced Harry Potter movie ever, and the most... wait for it... epic! It's incredibly sad to think that there will never be another Harry Potter midnight premiere, or another late-night Books-A-Million party in anticipation of the next book. (Though you'd think I would have come to terms with that by now.) But really, I just can't wait to watch all the movies and reread all the books again!
I have been waiting 5 years for this film, because I wanted it to be the first movie I saw during its midnight premiere..sadly I wasn't able to do that 'cus my boss called me around six last night to let me know that she wanted me to come in at 5 am the next morning and there was no way i was going to be able to see the movie and work with less then four hours of sleep! but it was epic? really? it was really epic? really!?! so xcited to see this movie - happy to say, i'm seeing it sunday, so CAN NOT WAIT!!!
ReplyDeletewill def be decked out in my harry potter gear!! sorting hat or no sorting hat, that is the question?? hrrmmmmmmm........
Yes, it's very sad that this is "the end of the road"...but we fans will continue to read and re-read the books, and watch the movies on DVD, again and again, because we LOVE Harry and Hermione, and Ron and...Dumbledore!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI must confess that I stopped reading when Dumbledore got killed, though...I started crying as if a family member had died, and couldn't stop for several minutes... I don't know why I got so attached to that character. Must be something in my childhood. I tried waiting things out for a few days, to see if I could go back and finish the book, but I couldn't...every time I would attempt to get past Dumbledore's death, I would start crying again.
So I have not finished reading the series. As for the movies, I've only seen the first four. Gotta get myself together and finish both the books and the movies... Oh, but I HATE Snape so MUCH!!!!!! He's the embodiment of everyone who ever picked on me!!!!
You guys look like you're loving sistahs who never fight, by the way! Right?
And your nails look SO cute!! Oh, I wish I could do my teen years all over again... KUDOS to Pinky!!
Have a GREAT weekend!!! : )
A 'short' P.S.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of dressing up as Hermione this Halloween. I can get the costume on Amazon. But I sure would love to go dressed up to the movie, and by Halloween, it won't be in theaters anymore...
Gotta wait 'till the crowds die down to go. Hubby and I can't STAND long lines at the movie theater!!! (Or anywhere else, for that matter!)
Awesome Nails!
ReplyDeleteCute pics! I agree about the Harry hugging Voldemort and flinging themselves off the edge and flying around Hogwarts scene. Talk about a WTF scene.
ReplyDelete@Aylee-- Ha ha, my thoughts exactly. ;)
ReplyDelete@Maria-- I've always wanted to dress up as a Hogwartsian (word?) for Halloween! Good luck with your Hermione costume. :)
@Valen-- Sorry you missed the premiere! Hope you enjoy seeing it on Sunday.
Hi Kat. Just now finding time to read your review. Yes, I agree it was EPIC. I truly enjoyed though you had us sitting in the theatre at 1am - something I have never done before but...wait for it... would do again - it was an adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I am going to re read the books, too.
ReplyDeleteAlso, your new heading at the top of your page is wonderful - look the black and white pencil drawing look!!! It has a great feel.
And, I am half way through Cleopatra's Daughter - finally had time - and I am enjoying it. It's very much a story of Rome, isn't it? It's good but I love my Pauline Gedge Egyptian books the most.
Lastly, so what is this Queen of Kings book? Is that about Hapshepsut?
See you later today Kat!
PS love the pics of you and Pinky - sweet sisters!
