Follow Friday (#31)

I'd like to extend a big hello to everyone stopping by from Follow Friday (hosted by the fabulous Parajunkee and the equally fabulous Alison of Alison Can Read).  To any old followers happening across my blog, another heartfelt hello, and it would be completely awesome to hear from you guys!  For those who don't know, I'm Kat-- reviewer of mostly fantasy, historical, and scifi-esque fiction (often I do venture into other genres, though).  I've been away from the blogosphere for a fairly long time and am just now getting back into the groove of everything.  Follow Friday is just about the funnest (this is a word) thing ever, and I'm so happy to be participating again!  If you leave your blog's link when you comment, whether old follower or new, I'll be sure to visit or follow you back.

So this week's FF question is:

Q: What are you reading right now? How do you like it?

And my answer: I'm currently reading a few books at once, some of them for literature classes and a few for fun.  I'm just getting into The Drawing of the Three, second book in Stephen King's Dark Tower series, and really enjoying it so far.

It seems kinda strange that I claim to be such a hardcore fantasy fan, and yet I'm just now reading The oh-so-classic Dark Tower books, but my only defense is: the spines of some of those later books are pretty darn thick.  I mean, the Wolves of the Calla may be a supposedly fantastic, unbelievably spectacular book, but how many pages is it?  Oh yeah, over 900.  But, if I continue to enjoy the series this much, I'm sure to get to it eventually.  I'd love to hear you guys' thoughts on Dark Tower, what you're reading right now, how much you love it/don't love it, whatever you like.  And don't forget to leave your blogs' links so I can follow you back!

Wishing you all happy following and a great weekend filled with much reading,

  2. I read the Dark Tower series in January (although I have yet to read Wind Through the Keyhole) and I think The Wolves of the Calla was my favorite. (At least right now, ask tomorrow and it'll probably be a different answer!)

These ones are long, but they are OH SO GOOD!!

Come see what I'm Reading now!

  3. I don't think I've ever read The Dark Tower. My favorite King book is (if I remember the title right--it's been years!) The Dragon's Eye. Another fantasy, rather then horror, book. I remember being very interested in what was going on.

  7. I get nervous if the book is over 500 pages...that's a HUGE time commitment for a slow reader like me.

I remember reading Stephen King when I was a teen, I loved them, but then they started to give me nightmares, and had to stop, "It" was the scariest one ever, gave me bad nightmares, and can't stand clowns since then, they creep me out, lol
I now just read paranormal/fantasy books. :) No horror anymore, lol

  15. I still haven't gotten completely through Dark Tower... with the kindle, those huge books are usually easier to get into - you have no idea you're in for +- 1000 pages that way :)

  21. I haven't read any Stephen Kings books- although there are a few that I want to read- I think I may have read some of his short stories- I can't remember but i know my dad is a SK fan so I must have . I often put off reading books that are longer because I am impatient. I hope you enjoy the series.

  24. Sadly, I've never read any of Stephen King's books. Some of my family members are huge fans of his and have read all of his books. I love fantasy, so I'll have to check this series out.

  28. @Emily-- Ha ha, I don't usually respond to FF comments on my blog much, but this one made me laugh! You're probably right about King being more popular among the older crowd, but well, I guess I'm old at heart. Thanks for following back! :)

  30. You know, I've always meant to read King's Tower series, it's always touted as one of the best Fantasy series ever... and people love it so much... and yet somehow I've avoided it.

    I have to fix that!
