Cover VS Cover: A Very Mixed Bag of Covers

I haven't posted a Cover VS Cover in a LONG time, which is a shame because it's always been one of Myriad's most popular (and fun) features.  Basically, it's a cover meme where we compare YA book covers from all around the world and allow ourselves to shamelessly judge a book by its cover.  This week's books are a very mixed bag.  There's no particular theme-- just books I've reviewed or noticed around the blogosphere lately.  As always, feel free to point out any covers I've missed and tell us what you think!

Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly
UK   vs      US
Next up on the for-review chopping block...I love both of these covers.  I was impressed with the parallel profiles on the US one, but the UK cover is so beautiful and symbolic.  Just beautiful.

Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
Aussie    vs  2010 Aussie   vs   US
I reviewed this fantastic contemp book recently, and was curious to see what the Aussie covers looked like since it was first released in Australia.  The original cover I definitely love, though the new paperback edition not so much.  The US is cool, too-- very eye-catching and it has that nice fat Printz award sticker. (The Printz is well-deserved!)

Devil's Kiss
UK     vs      US         vs       German
This is a fun, very dark paranormal centered around the modern-day Knights Templar.  I'm going to have to go with the UK cover, because it fits the urban fantasy theme of the book perfectly.  Though the German cover is very appealing as well.

Ruby Red by Kersten Gier
German  vs   US   vs   French   vs   Norwegian
Ruby Red is just about to be released in the US-- it's been popular in Europe for some time now.  The original German cover is maybe my favorite-- so very fairy-tale-esque!  But the French cover (which is also the Italian cover, by the way) is beautiful, too.  Reminds me of the cover of Fallen, which I love despite really not loving the book at all.

Gone by Michael Grant
US       vs     UK     vs     German
The sister is going to be guest-reviewing this fast-paced dystopia in a few days, if I can manage to bind her hands to the keyboard.  Gone is one of my favorite books, but I don't love any of the covers.  The US cover seems awkward; the UK one wouldn't make me want to read it at all.  The German cover is actually the best by far-- the models don't dominate the scene, but they are still there and the darkness and light behind the silhouettes on the horizon has a cool effect.

OK, that rounds up this batch of covers!  I'm going to try to do another Cover VS Cover soon, maybe with a series theme next time rather than just random spotlight books.  Let me know what you think, and I hope everyone has a great week!

FYI, this post was unreadable with the RSS reader I use, because of the white text. Is this intentional, to get people to click on the blog link? (I prefer my reader so I can set font size, etc)

You might consider using CSS tags and pre-set colors in the layout so you don't have to manually change the text color inside the post.

Probably I've missed bits of your posts before, because of being white text, but didn't realize because it wasn't the entire post...

Great cover post.

UK is my fave for Revolution. Simple yet standout from over covers.

Aussie cover for On The Jellicoe Rd because it suits the story.

Devil's Kiss US because it is pretty.

Ruby Red French. Like the dark colours.

And I agree the German cover for Gone is my fave too :)

@Keri-- Oh, I am so sorry!! I confess I have never viewed my own blog through RSS (almost all my posts are in white since my background is black). I assure you it is not a ploy to get readers to click on the link. I did screw with the font color a little bit this time (changed it back and forth), but for this post I will change the color to something readable. A thousand apologies! :)
